Course Title: Spinal Dynamics: Dissection Livestream

Course Date: December 16-17, 2023

Course Instructor: Tom Myers and Todd Garcia

What is your training and experience:
Thomas Myers studied with Drs. Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais, and Buckminster Fuller, and with a variety of movement and manual therapy pioneers. His work is influenced by cranial, visceral, and intrinsic movement studies he made with European schools of osteopathy.
An inveterate traveler, Tom has practiced integrative manual therapy for over 40 years in a variety of clinical and cultural settings.
Tom is the author of Anatomy Trains (2020, 4th ed), co-author of Fascial Release for Structural Balance (North Atlantic, 2010, 2017), co-author of Anatomy Trains in Motion Study Guide (2019), author of Body3, The Anatomist’s Corner, Structural Integration: Collected Articles, and BodyReading: Visual Assessment and The Anatomy Trains, and has also written extensively for Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (Elsevier). He has also produced over 20 online learning courses with Anatomy Trains, and others in collaboration with various body-oriented professional groups. Tom lives and sails on the coast of Maine in the USA. Tom and his faculty conduct professional development courses and certification in Structural Integration worldwide.

Todd Garcia is owner and director of Laboratories of Anatomical Enlightenment, Inc. Todd is a faculty member of Red Rocks Community College, Lakewood, Colorado where he has been teaching human anatomy in the Physicians Assistant Program for 10 years. Todd also teaches human anatomy for the Emergency Medicine Department of Front Range Community College, Westminster, Colorado.
Todd specializes in human dissection, and has been teaching anatomy for 15 years. He has worked together with anatomy/physiology textbook publisher Benjamin Pearson, and author, Thomas Myers in the creation of anatomy/physiology textbooks and DVD’s. As director and teacher at Laboratories of Anatomical Enlightenment, Inc. Todd continues to teach human anatomy classes to students of more than 20 different schools ranging from entry level massage therapist to graduate students. For 7 years Todd taught human anatomy continuing education classes at the Anatomical Institute of Vienna, Vienna, Austria. Todd’s dissection experience is in the range of 10,000 hours. His region of specialty is the cranium.

Course Start and end times: 10:00am - 1:00pm EDT

Course Type: online synchronous

Course Description: Tom and Todd will be together in Todd’s new dissection laboratory in Colorado for this special livestream on a new concept of the 3 spirals presented here for the first time. Human beings depend on rotation around their spines more than almost any of our mammalian friends. Come explore the complexity of rotations and the 3 spiral systems that create dynamic movement in the human spine.
This course consists of 2 x 3-hour modules, capturing Todd’s masterful dissection with multiple camera views, brought to life by Tom’s pithy narration and clinical commentary from his 40 years of teaching fascial anatomy. In this specialty class, we will explore 3 concentric spiral systems hidden in the muscle layers – one for the limbs, one for the trunk, and one for the spine. These ‘3 rotational systems’ provide strength, balance, and coordination in athletic and everyday motion – and lead to strain, pain, or loss of power when they get out of whack or drop offline. The outermost of these spiral chains connects contralateral shoulder and hip girdles, while the middle spiral centers and powers the trunk during rotation, and the inner spiral steadies the spine as it turns on its axis. Come see these three spirals revealed in fresh tissue dissection, embody how they work in action, and how to coordinate them for maximum power. This special dissection livestream format allows us to go more deeply into the relationships and applications to multiple manual and movement modalities. This course will be provided over Zoom webinar with multiple camera views, live chat and Q&A. Recordings will be provided via password protected streaming access for 10 days.
